Here's how I got it to work: I took a really small wire and passed it twice through the little holes in the metal piece. Since that, I left the camera in my drawer. have to turn off the lightening bolt flash to take picture.

I haven't tried it yet, but reformatting the memory card using the camera might also fix the problem. This is exactly my problem after I bought a new NiMH rechargeable battery and at the same time my brother faulted to plug a 18.5volts laptop power supply to the camera. More likely this is a power problem. Have tried all sorts of batteries but now my A590 is down to about 30" when fully-charged batteries are inserted. I love this camera and so am greatly relieved.
