David A. Continue tapping the disc (like you are trying to tap the disc into the drive) and gradually increase the force of the tap until, bingo, the disc sucks into the drive!!! I'm on my 3rd power pack as this is a common fault also! The famous tech support mantras prevail again, "Have you tried turning it on and off again?" ... "Are you sure everything is plugged in?"..
Provided I have a running backup Mac, which I do of course: the aforementioned PB, as well as an inherited eMac, and a data backup strategy which enables me to synch I have a 27" iMac with the same slot drive. Very tiny junction = approx 3mm. Genius!
