This microswitch tells the camera that an external flash is attached and to not try and popup the internal flash. If the $680 is with the kit lens then thats a really good price if it is for body only then thats not all that great of a price. Perhaps the trigger button is stuck (see the 4th picture of the post). Source I was begining to get that feeling about user servicable parts.

The microswitch seems to be functioning fine. After a recent trip to Thailand, this problem caused me to lose a few timely pictures and I came home being fully prepared to take my camera apart to fix this Texture in Inkscape So I have been using Inkscape for many years now and I absolutely love it. I looked online for solutions in the past to no avail.
