Have you ever wanted to speed up or slow down the videos you watch in Youtube? The inside of the flash hinge is a bit different to the one shown in the article, with two visible screws, one either side of the hinge. Your solution worked for me too (Canon T2i). You solution worked for my EOS 400D too! Often times the leaf spring just needs to be teased up gently (e.g. You can't see it because it's black on black but it's there. But since I use the rig for video it didn't bother me but now I'm been taking stills.
