I told the fitter about all the tests I'd done with the voltmeter and he said that such tests were unnreliable as in his experience when the relay fails it leads No luck there. I got it going temporarily by simply disconnecting the wires from the relay and joining them together. Make sure all the connections in both the plug and socket are tight and that there isn't any corrosion on the inside of the connectors.
